PURPOSE:To obtain a new polycyclic alkaloid obtained from a natural source and having antitumor action and tocolytic action. CONSTITUTION:This alkaloid is expressed by the formula. It can be produced e.g. by extracting the root, etc., of Asparagus racemousus belonging to the family Liliaceae with a (mixed)solvent comprising water and/or an alcohol or a water/acetone mixture, removing the solvent from the extracted liquid, extracting the residue as it is or optionally in a state dissolved in water with an organic solvent such as petroleum ether or chloroform, subjecting the obtained fat-soluble component once or several times to column chromatography using one or more solvents selected from water, methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, chloroform, ethyl acetate, hexane, acetone and benzene as elution solvents and a porous polymer, Sephadex, reversed phase silica gel, silica gel, polyamide, activated carbon, cellulose, etc., as a carrier and fractionating the product by thin-film chromatography. |
