<p>We disclose a method of producing a red blood cell suitable for delivery of a polypeptide to a vertebrate, the method comprising the steps of: providing a transgenic animal carrying and expressing a transgene encoding the polypeptide; obtaining a red blood cell containing the polypeptide from the animal; and sensitising the red blood cell. A method of producing a polypeptide by isolating a red blood cell from a transgenic animal carrying and expressing a transgene encoding the polypeptide, sensitizing the red blood cell, exposing the red blood cells to an energy source sufficient to disrupt the sensitized red blood cell, and isolating the polypeptide, is also disclosed. We also disclose an assay for determining delivery of an agent to a target site.</p> |
