The starter/generator, for a vehicle, has a stator (19) and a rotor (20) which turn over the motor for starting in one mode, and generate electricity to charge the battery in another mode. The stator is fixed at a housing (21), and the rotor is linked to the input shaft (10) through a freewheel unit (38). A hollow wheel (15) of the planetary gearing (18) is keyed to the rotor, and the planetary carrier (12) is keyed to the input shaft. A sun wheel (14) is linked to the housing through a second freewheel unit (44).
