Integrally stiffened and formed, load carrying structures comprising a plurality of elongated thin-walled tubes (162) placed co-extensively in a complementary side-by-side fashion which together form a hollow structure (120) having a desired external contour. The structure (176) can be formed with an underlying internal support member (126) spanning the interior of the load carrying structure. Also, each of the tubes (162) are wound with fibers (214) in controlled orientations.
