A display device (1) has permanently visible symbols (6) denoting functions. A marker (9) is provided for marking the symbols corresponding to the active function. The symbols may be arranged in an arc section around the region of the screen for displaying numbers. The marker may be moved using a switch. The functions may comprise basic functions and sub-functions of the basic functions.
