An applicator assembly for applying liquid product to the hair. The applicator assembly has an applicator that further has a base and multiple tines extending from the base. Opposite the tines, the base has a liquid distribution cavity. At least some of the tines have a tip at the end opposite the base, and may also have an enlarged fin section adjacent to the base. The enlarged fin section extends to a shoulder portion located less than half way upward between the base and the tip of the tine. The tines may also have an aperture that allows fluid to be distributed from the cavity directly to the hair. The tip of the tine may be relatively flexible, while its enlarged fin section provides a more rigid lower portion.
