Control device for data transfer using a So- interface. The control device concerned is an adapter (So/IP) at the interface to an IP network (LAN), which is assigned a source IP address in the LAN and a source port number. Address and port number are used in the message headers of IP packets with the headers divided into a data field and a sub header (SUB) with which control data for the So-channel (D, B1, B2) is assigned. An Independent claim is made for control of synchronous data transfer over an ISDN So-interface using an IP LAN.
