The invention relates to a method for lifting a roll (7) in a body construction (2) for a machine stand (3) in a machine for production of a continuous fibrous web (4) containing cellulose fibres, for example a paper machine, tissue machine or cardboard machine, in which method the roll (7) is lifted slightly so that an intermediate piece (10) arranged under the roll (7) can be removed. According to the invention, the lifting is effected by virtue of a lifting device (24) forming part of a lifting arrangement (23) being placed in a specific position under a bearing housing (15) for the roll (7), the lifting device (24) being postioned in such a way that is acts against the bearing housing (15) concerned within a recess (48) extending through the intermediate piece (10), and the lifting device (24) being made to lift the roll (7) over such a distance that the intermediate piece (10) can be removed. The invention also relates to a lifting arrangement for implementing the method.
