PURPOSE: To improve the cycle lifetime characteristic of a sealed lead-acid battery in a method for charging the sealed lead-acid battery, which has its battery voltage detected during charging and has its charging current switched between two stages, by securing the appropriate quantity of the charging power. CONSTITUTION: In a method for detecting the battery voltage during charging and for switching the charging current between two stages, the required time for the achievement of the detected voltage and the quantity of voltage change just before the achievement of the detected voltage are measured, and at least one of the charging time and the charging current value of the second stage is changed. The current of the first stage is set at a value more than that of the second stage and at 0.4CA or less, and the current of the second stage is set at 0.05CA or less. |
