PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat-resistant exhaust gas purifying catalyst oxidatively buring carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and particulates contained in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, especially, a diesel engine to purify the exhaust gas. SOLUTION: A heat-resistant exhaust gas purifying catalyst is obtained by supporting one or more kinds of noble metal palladium 3 and one or more kinds of Group IV-B element silica 4 being catalytically active components on a heat-resistant inorg. honeycomb carrier base material 1 or a metal honeycomb carrier base material or a mullite type honeycomb carrier base material 1 obtained by coating said base carrier material with an inorg. substance with a high specific surface area such as γ-alumina.
