Disposable absorbent garments such as diapers comprise an outer cover 42, an absorbent chassis 44, a waist panel 70 having primary fasteners 62 on its lateral extremities for engaging the opposite waist region and a stretch band 64 located between the waist panel and outer cover which can be extended so that secondary fasteners 66 at its ends may also engage the opposite waist region to give a closer fit about the wearer. The article may be put on with the primary fasteners already fastened and the secondary fasteners are subsequently engaged. The waist panel and stretch band with their respective fasteners may be formed in a continuous process.
