An apparatus for controlling the luminance and the brightness of LCD using a non-volatile potentiometer having an input part ordering the control of the luminance or the brightness which user wants a system operating all apparatus according to the signal of the input part, a decoder generating the motion control signal corresponding to the order of the system, a non-volatile potentiometer control part correcting time from switch ON to OFF, a non-volatile potentiometer receiving the control signal from the non-volatile potentiometer control part to control and store the resistance value and a LCD which its non-volatile potentiometer luminance and brightness are controled by the signal outputted from the non-volatile potentiometer is disclosed.
