A card with an integrated circuit (ic) and an embedded antenna coil is formed by (a) embedding a wire antenna coil 100 (Fig 2) onto a core sheet 102; (b) laminating the core sheet with a number of outer sheets (104, 106, Fig 4) to form a laminated panel; ( c ) milling a cavity 112 (Fig 9) in the laminated panel to expose part of the antenna coil 100; (d) pulling out two ends 114 of the antenna coil from the core sheet; and ( e) securing the integrated circuit 115 with the antenna coil by soldering or thermo-compression bonding. The cavity receives the integrated circuit 115 so that a major surface thereof is exposed to the external face of the card. The cavity includes wider, upper and narrower, lower portions 112, 116 to house the respective wider and narrower portions 113, 118 of the integrated circuit. |
