PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrostatic ink jet head in which unsettlement and deterioration of ink ejection characteristics due to residual vibration of a diaphragm can be prevented. SOLUTION: The ratio C2/C1 between the compliance C1 of ink used in an electrostatic ink jet head 1 and the compliance C2 of diaphragms 51 (1)-51 (5) is set in the range of 5.4-10, preferably in the range of 7.8-10. The compliance C1 can be defined by C1=ϕ.V, whereinϕis the compressibility of ink and V is the volume of an ink pressure chamber. The compliance C2 can be defined by C2=60.E.h3/(i5.d), where E is Young's modulus of the diaphragm material, h is the thickness of the diaphragm, i is the width of the diaphragm, and d is the length of the diaphragm. When the compliance ratio is set as described above, residual vibration of the diaphragm can be reduced significantly and thereby unsettlement and deterioration of ink ejection characteristics due to residual vibration can be prevented.
