PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bisphenol A from phenol and acetone, while controlling the flow velocity of the raw materials in a reactor tower, by which the bisphenol A can efficiently be produced in an improved phenol conversion. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bisphenol A, comprising concentrating phenol with acetone in the presence of a cation exchange resin as a catalyst and further a free mercaptan compound as a cocatalyst, is characterized by controlling a raw material space velocity in the reaction tower charged with the cation exchange resin to a range of 1.5 to 6 m/h.
