ADDITIVES FOR POLYMER COMPOSITIONS

The present invention provides an additive system for vinyl chloride polymer formulations to improve both the processing of the formulations and the functional characteristics of medical products made from the formulations. The additive system sur- prisingly exceeds previously known systems with respect to the melt fabrication and heat stability of the polymer formulations and the desired product characteristics of the products manufactured from su ch materials. Preferably, the additive system of the present invention comprises optimal amounts of the combination of a zinc raf t primary stabilizer with an epoxide secondary stab- ilizer and a polyethylene external lubricant. Other processing aids and performance additives such as bases, antioxidants and in- ternal lubricants; may be included. The additive system can be utilized with either plasticized or non-plasticized vinyl chloride po- lymer formulations.
