PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment apparatus in which the steam produced in the apparatus can be used for backwashing a bag filter. SOLUTION: Waste 20 is decomposed in a thermal decomposing furnace 2 to produce gas. The gas produced in the furnace 2 is sent to a gas cooling boiler 4 through a gas reformer 3 to produce steam. The gas from the boiler 4 is sent to the bag filter 5 to remove the dust contained in the gas. The steam from the boiler 4 is sent to the filter 5 to backwash the filter 5.
