PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder for continuous casting for stably producing a cast slab excellent in the surface characteristic without bringing about such trouble on an operation as surface defect, break-out in a continuously cast slab, and a method for producing a B-containing steel, which comprises steps of continuous casting by using the above powder and thereafter, hot-rolling and if necessary, applying a cold-rolling. SOLUTION: The powder for continuous casting is adjusted so that CaO and Li2O become 1.0-4.0 CaO/Li2O ratio, and contains 5-40 wt.% Al2O3, 1-4 wt.% C and further, <=20 wt.% total content of one or more kinds among SiO2, Fe2O3, MnO, MgO, B2O3 and Na. The B-containing steel is obtained by continuously casting using this powder.
