PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for packaging wherein not only a tubular packaging material can be supplied smoothly and stably, but also the edge of the upper end opening of the packaging material can be opened easily and surely. SOLUTION: The method for packaging comprises a step wherein a long tubular packaging material 1 is supplied from below and the forward end of the material 1 is turned upwards, and at the same time, a core 2 is slidably inserted into the material 1 so as to be supported by a roller 3, and then the material 1 is held between movable holding claws 9a with the edge of the forward end opening thereof being opened; a step wherein the material 1, with its edge of the forward end opening being held between the claws 9a, is drawn out of the core 2 and set to a proper storage length; a step wherein the bottom of the material 1 is sealed by means of a lower part sealing block 5 and cut by a cuter 6; a step whereing an article to be packaged is put into the material 1 from a hopper 13; and a step wherein the edge of the forward end opening of the material 1 is sealed by means of an upper part sealing block 8.
