PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for drawing wires without causing any of tight winding, loose winding and uneven winding by keeping proper winding tension at any position in winding stages onto a bobbin in the drawing of a thin metallic wire, specially gold bonding wire with a cone type/ slip type wire-drawing mill. SOLUTION: In the method for drawing the thin metallic wire 1 with the cone type/slip type wire-drawing mill having dies (3a-3e), after the thin wire is passed through a capstan at last, furthermore wire drawing is performed with a finishing die 3e and, after that, when winding the wire onto a bobbin 4, by changing one or both of the linear velocity of a winding wire and the circumferential speed of the capstan with the increase of a winding diameter onto the bobbin 4, a slip rate (the ratio of the difference between the circumferential speed u and the linear velocity Ve of the wire when the thin wire is passed through the capstan 2 at last which is divided by the linear velocity of the wire) is increased. The capstan 2 comprises a pair of cylindrical capstans (2R, 2L).
