Speed change control of automatic transmission in motor vehicles with an electronic control unit

The gear-change control uses an electronic control device initiating gear-change in dependence on detected operating parameters and in dependence on input signals (As,Av,Aw,Ao,D) from a navigation system (2) provided in the vehicle, representing external information e.g. the road surface characteristics, or the traffic conditions. Preferably, one of the input signals represents the weather conditions along the road on which the vehicle is being driven. The navigation system (2) also receives RDS (radio data system) and GPS (global positioning system) information contributing to more stable gear-change control.
