The method involves providing a first transmission channel with a first key for transmitting encrypted signals between a transmission unit and a reception unit. The transmission channel is used to transmit encrypted information. A second transmission channel is set-up using appropriate signalling when the key is changed during the transmission. A second key is determined for the second channel and it is switched to the second channel for transmission of encrypted information in the second transmission channel. Preferably, the transmission channels are virtual channels of an ATM transmission system. |
