PURPOSE: A therapeutic agent of B type hepatitis containing as an effective active sodium substituted tryptophan separated from a Zingiberis Rhizoma extract is provided. The sodium substituted tryptophan has inhibition effect on the formation of a hepatitis B virus surface antigen, therefore a composition containing the same can be effectively used as an agent for treating B type hepatitis. CONSTITUTION: A therapeutic agent of B type hepatitis contains an aqueous extract of Zingiberis Rhizoma and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt such as a carrier, an excipient, a filler, an anti-coagulant, a lubricant, a flavoring, etc. The therapeutically effective amount thereof ranges from 5 to 15 mg per kg body weight per dose. A cell line forming a hepatitis B virus is cultured in an IMDM medium including 10% FBS, 1% ABAM and geneticin concentrated 400μg/ml contained in a T75 flask for 5 days and treated with 100μM of sodium substituted tryptophan.
