摘要 An assembly for coupling an optical fiber to an optical component, e.g., an axisymmetric light source such as an axisymmetric laser diode, comprises a light source connected to an optical fiber ferrule via a focusing component in the form of a micro lens element. This element is made in the form of a plate having one end face flat and the opposite end with an circular microlens. The microlens is inserted into the central opening of the ferrule and is glued to the end face of the ferrule with a UV-curable optically matched glue. An essential part of the invention is that all parts of the coupling are made from a material with the same or close coefficient of thermal expansion, and that an assembling procedure ensures optimal coupling (without losses) of the light source to the fiber due to high quality of the aspheric lens and due to a specific sequence of operations in assembling. The construction of the coupler is suitable for mass production by forming an array of microlenses, aligned with fibers in a fiber matrix, and fiber locking matrix that fixes individual fibers of the bundle in optically matched positions. The alignment is ensured due to simultaneous packaged manufacturing of the lenses and holes in the fiber matrix and the locking matrix. Other embodiments relate to coupling between two multiple-fiber ports and to a device for switching between the fibers.
