User authentication in computer and telephone network, based on authorisation code transmitted as part of telephone number

The authentication method comprises the following steps : (a) the user (C) sends user-specific information to the service unit (A) via a data network (G) ; (b) the service unit or a telephone service unit (B) generates an alpha-numeric authorisation code ; (c) the authorisation code is transmitted from the service unit via the data network and a telephone service network (T) between the user and telephone service unit, by making use of the number identification function or report function of the telephone service network and a pre-selected link between the user-specific information and the user's telephone number ; and (d) a check is made to see whether the authorisation code and the user-specific information are identical to the transferred authorisation code and previously stored user-specific information. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Software program for implementing the service unit and/or telephone service unit on a computer; and (2) Computer system provided with this software.
