PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lever type break of a fishing reel, capable of rapidly and easily adjusting the tension of a fishing line. SOLUTION: This lever type brake is characterized by having a brake lever 13 which is rotatably fixed to a reel main body 10 through a hinge and brakes a cylinder 12 which is integrally rotated together with a rotary 20 on a reverse rotation, a brake force-transmitting member 15 which is rotatably fixed to the reel main body 10 via a hinge, in the cylinder 12, and is rotated in interlock with the brake lever 13 on the rotation of the brake lever 13, and brake shoes 16, 17 which are fixed to the braking force-transmitting member 15 in postures to face the inside of the cylinder 12 and are frictionally brought into contact with the inside of the cylinder 12 to generate a braking force.
