PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of achieving both compactness of the conditioner and securing the opening of the conditioner. SOLUTION: An air mix chamber 6 for mixing cold air after passing a heat exchanger 2 for cooling with warm air after passing a heat exchanger 3 for heating is provided on the downstream side of the heat exchanger 2 for cooling and the heat exchanger 3 for heating, and above the heat exchanger 3 for heating. An opening and closing mechanism 20 is composed of three opening parts 8, 9, and 10 provided to be continuous with a housing 7 connected to the upper part of the casing 5 for composing the upper part of the air mix chamber 6, and a first and a second slide doors 11 and 12 slidably disposed along the inner surface of the housing 7. In selecting any opening part of them to be opened, the slide doors 11 and 12 open the selected opening part, while closing the other opening parts, so that the opening and closing mechanism 20 and the whole body of the air conditioner can be made compact. Since the opening area of the opening parts 8, 9, and 10 can be secured, ventilation resistance can be reduced, thereby the performance of the air conditioner can be also improved.
