摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethylene glycol, capable of producing the ethylene glycol having high ultraviolet-light transmittance, when the ethylene glycol is produced from ethylene oxide through ethylene carbonate. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ethylene glycol comprises a carbonation process wherein the ethylene carbonate is formed by reacting the ethylene oxide with carbon dioxide, a hydrolysis process wherein an aqueous solution of the ethylene glycol is formed by reacting the liquid reaction product from the carbonation process with water, and a dehydration/purification process wherein the ethylene glycol is separated from the aqueous solution of the ethylene glycol, wherein the amount of formaldehyde which is introduced into the reaction system in the carbonation process is controlled to be a ratio of <=500 ppm based on the total amount of the ethylene oxide which is supplied to the reaction system in the carbonation process and the water which is supplied to the reaction systems in the carbonation and the hydrolysis processes.
