PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost and high-performance ink jet recording medium which shows the increase of an ink absorption rate for rapid printing, the improvement of surface luster for high image quality and further, the upgrading of productivity as performance requirements of the ink jet recording medium as well as a support as a base material used for the ink jet recording medium. SOLUTION: In the support for the ink jet recording medium with an image receiving layer of a void structure including an inorganic fine particle and a water-soluble resin formed on the support, this support for an ink jet recording medium is of such a structure that it has a surface thin layer having a critical surface tension which is lower than the surface tension of a coating liquid for forming an image receiving layer of the void structure and higher than the surface tension of an ink for forming an image, on a paper base material. |
