PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold for press forming capable of repeatedly press forming an optical glass element having various kinds of shape which could not be attained by conventional grinding/polishing process, and to provide a glass element obtained by press forming using the mold for press forming. SOLUTION: This mold for press forming an optical glass element is characterized in that the forming surface comprises a ground processed layer 2 comprising an electroless nickel-phosphorus alloy (Ni-P) plated film which is obtained by dispersed co-deposition of fine particles of at least a kind selected from nitrides, carbides, borides and oxides on the base material of the mold 1. This glass element is obtained by press forming using the mold.
