PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disposable diaper excellent in leak preventing properties and capable of certainly preventing leakage especially in a state lyintg on one's side. SOLUTION: In the disposable diaper equipped with a liquid permeable surface sheet 2, a liquid impermeable leak preventing sheet 3 and a liquid holding absorbing body 4 and having a pair of back side flap parts 11, 11 and a pair of abdominal side flap parts 12, 12, the back side flap parts 11, 11 and/or the abdominal side flap parts 12, 12 are arranged from the side surfaces D of the body part of a wearer to the side surfaces E of the femur part thereof at the time of wearing and the area ratio (back side flap part 11/abdominal side flap part 12) of the back side flap part 11 and the abdominal side flap part 12 is 1.5 or more and the sum total area of both left and right leg holes F, F formed between the back side flap part 11 and the abdominal side flap part 12 is not more than 15% with respect to the total area of the diaper.
