PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which determines the position of a medical instrument guided into an inspection subject and images the periphery of the medical instrument. SOLUTION: To all kinds of medical instruments, a position recognizing apparatus placed in a range at the end part of a medical instrument (3) guided into an inspection subject (1) to enable to gain position information and image information from the periphery to the instant on the medical instrument determines the position of the medical instrument (3) in the inspection subject (1). Simultaneously image information is gained around the medical instrument (3) by an image gaining device (4) placed on the medical instrument (3). The position of the medical instrument (3) is reproduced in a survey image of the inspection subject (1) based on the determined position and an image of the periphery related to position related to the inspection subject (1) is displayed based on the gained image information.
