摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide adaptive object moving direction detecting device and method, capable of detecting the moving direction of an object, regardless of the strength and weakness of the average brightness of an imager and saving resources. SOLUTION: A response outputting means 2 divides a two-dimensional pixel space, formed by image information inputted from an image inputting means 1 into local areas, inputs each pixel data included in the respective local areas and outputs a response, corresponding to the pixel data corresponding to the respective local areas. A correlation function means 3 calculates a correlation function value, showing the degree of temporal and spatial correlation between respective responses, on the basis of the outputted response, each time a response is outputted from each response element. A response selecting means 4 selects the response, in which the degree of the temporal and spatial correlation calculated by the correlation function means is high from the response- outputting means 2. A moving direction detecting means 5 detects the moving direction, on the basis of the response selected by the response selecting means 4.
