PURPOSE: To provide a position adjusting device for an optical modulating device with which the position adjusting work can be easily carried out. CONSTITUTION: A referential projection lens 345 which enlarges and projects the beam synthesized by a cross dichroic prism to form a projected image and which has specified optical characteristics is assembled for common use in the position adjusting device. Once the position of the optical axis is aligned when the lens is assembled, alignment of the optical axis is not necessary when the position of a liquid crystal panel is to be adjusted but only the liquid crystal panel and the cross dichroic prisms are required to be exchanged, therefore, makes the position adjusting work easy.
