PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline metal electrochemical cell with short-circuit safety characteristic using a double-collector cathode structure. SOLUTION: The electrochemical cell is provided with an anode, a cathode consisting of a first cathode active material having a comparatively low energy density but a comparatively high-efficiency discharge capability and a second cathode active material having a comparatively high energy density but a comparatively low-efficiency discharge capability, of which, the first cathode active material is so constructed to make up a short circuit with the second cathode active material and the second cathode active material is so made to face the anode, and electrolyte solution reacting with the anode and the cathode.
