PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost electrophotographic developer which suppresses the contamination of the surface of a carrier with a toner even when an effective area of development is made small, ensures stable image quality in any environmental state and has a long service life. SOLUTION: The developer is a two-component developer comprising a toner consisting essentially of a binder and a colorant and a carrier having a resin coating and 40-100μm weight average particle diameter. The volume average particle diameter of the toner is 8-11.5μm, the amount of toner particles of <=6.35μm is <=20% by number and the coefficient of variation in the particle size distribution of the toner (expressed in terms of number) is <=35.
