PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head capable of suppressing the occurrence of side fringing on a recording pattern, forming a main magnetic pole layer with high pattern accuracy, forming the film of a yoke layer to be thick, and increasing passing efficiency, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A main magnetic pole layer 24 is formed on a flat insulated layer 33 and, separately from the main magnetic pole layer 24, a thick yoke layer 35 is laminated on the main magnetic pole layer 24. The front end surface 24a of the main magnetic pole layer 24 is formed in such a shape that a width dimension in a track width direction is increased as it is farther away from an auxiliary magnetic pole layer 21. Thus, a perpendicular magnetic recording head is provided, which is capable of suppressing the occurrence of fringing on a recording pattern, forming the main magnetic pole layer with high pattern accuracy, and properly guiding a recording magnetic field to the tip of the main magnetic pole layer. |
