PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of a case and a fluorescent tube even when a light transmission plate which is a heavy constituent member of a backlight is moved in a liquid crystal display device by vibration or impact. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal element and the backlight for irradiating one surface of the liquid crystal display element with light. The backlight has the light transmission plate GLB opposed to one surface of the liquid crystal display element, the fluorescent tube opposed to the side surface of one side of the light transmission plate GLB and the case MCA housing the light transmission plate GLB and the fluorescent tube In the corner parts where the one side and the other pair of sides crossing the one side of the light transmission plate GLB are adjacent to each other, the light transmission plate GLB is linearly chamfered in the direction oblique to the one side. In the case MCA, supporting frames PJ respectively extended along the side surfaces of the other pair of sides of the light transmission plate GLB are formed and provided with linearly shaped oblique parts respectively formed along the chamfered parts of the light transmission plate GLB in the corner part.
