PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an MR head from electrostatically being destroyed in a magnetic recording and reproducing device equipped with the MR head. SOLUTION: A mechanism chassis 1a held at a ground potential and a conductive cassette mechanism 8 which carries a cassette case into the magnetic recording and reproducing device 1 are electrically connected together by resistances 10a and 10b. Consequently, when the cassette case having been charged with static electricity is inserted or if static electricity is generated by loading and unloading a magnetic tape in and from a drum device 3, the static electricity is discharged to the mechanism chassis 1a through the cassette mechanism 8 and resistances 10a and 10b.
