<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch having fast operation speed and simple structure which can be made as a low power consumption type or small-sized. SOLUTION: The switch has a reflecting part adjacent to the counter face of a magneto-optical element so as to reflect the incident light entering the magneto-optical effect element through the entrance and exit face of the element and to allow the light to exit from the entrance and exit face, a polarization separation element in the optical path where the light enters the magneto-optical element, a polarization synthesizing element in the optical path where the light exit from the magneto-optical element, and a 1/2 wavelength plate in either the optical path of the incident light to the magneto-optical element or the optical path of the exiting light from the magneto-optical element.</p> |
