PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a person requesting information, using a portable telephone set to request the transmission of an information mail without being charged only by allowing call-incoming to an information providing server, without preparing character message in a method and system for providing information to the portable telephone set or a PHS (ferred to as personal handy-phone system portable telephone set, hereafter). SOLUTION: The information requester calls the telephone number, receiving part of an information providing server from the portable telephone set. The information-providing server obtains the telephone number of a transmitting person and call-originating position information of the portable telephone set transmitted from the sending service of the telephone number of the transmitting person, without receiving the calling. Since the calling is not received, the information requester is free of being charged. In accordance with the obtained telephone number of the person transmitting and call-originating position information of the portable telephone set, the information providing server retrieves information to be provided from a database or from the Internet and provides it to the portable telephone set as an electronic mail.
