PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of intense discharge and to stabilize the reset operation when a round waveform is used to drive a surface discharge type AC PDP. SOLUTION: When rounded pulses are applied on scanning electrodes in the reset period for plasma discharge, extremely weak discharge is continuously generated. Thereby, stable control of the wall voltage to a constant value is possible and the succeeding operation is also stabilized. As for the circuit to generate a round waveform, a Miller integration circuit 1 is used. As for the Miller element in the Miller integration circuit, a capacitor 4 having the characteristics of variable capacitance depending on the bias voltage is used.
