PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which can control the lowering of brightness during operation. SOLUTION: A rear plate 10 and a face plate 30 are arranged so as to face each other, and the space surrounded by both plates 10, 30 and a frame 4, is kept in a state of vacuum with a degree of vacuum of 1 Pa or less. A collector electrode 31 is formed on a surface at one side of the face plate 30 facing the rear plate 10, and a fluophor layer 32 is formed so as to cover the collector electrode 31. On a surface at one side of the rear plate 10, facing the face plate 30, a field emission type electron source composed of a lower electrode 8, a strong electric field drift layer 6, and a surface electrode 7, is formed. A heat radiation means, radiating the heat generated at the field emission type electron source to the rear surface side of the rear plate 10, is installed. The heat radiation means are constituted by lump-shaped heat radiation bodies 60 embedded inside the rear plate 10.
