PURPOSE: A device for selecting an external interface unit of a multi interface gateway system is provided to make a connection to various kinds of communication circuits possible through an external interface unit without an additional communication device by setting an external interface unit same as an interface of a corresponding communication circuit selectively according to a connected communication circuit. CONSTITUTION: A mode setting unit(40) is provided for generating a selection signal for selecting a corresponding interface module set by a user according to a communication circuit being connected to an external interface unit. An interface module selection control unit(28) generates an interface selection signal for judging a mode selected by a selection signal of the mode setting unit(40), outputting mode information set in a control unit(11), and connecting one out of a plurality of interface modules according to the selected mode to a corresponding local bus. A bus connection unit(27) responds to the interface module selection control unit(28) and connects one out of a plurality of interface modules to the control unit(11) through one local bus. When a power is turned on, the control unit(11) initializes many different interface units and loads a program for operating an interface module connected to the bus connection unit(27) according to the selection signal by the interface module selection control unit(28).
