PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of side fringing caused by the occurrence of a skew angle in the conventional perpendicular magnetic recording head of a perpendicular recording type. SOLUTION: The front of a main magnetic pole layer 24 on a surface opposite to a recording medium is formed roughly in a reverse trapezoidal shape. Thus, even when a skew angle occurs, the protrusion of sides 24f1 in a track width direction are prevented, and side fringing is suppressed.
