PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the constitutional method of a maximum likelihood decoder for a recursive type system convolution coding in which the soft decision maximum likelihood information of a decoding output can be obtained. SOLUTION: The divisor polynomial multiplication processing section of the recursive type system convolution coding is mounted between an addition comparison selecting processing section in a conventional maximum-likelihood decoder and a pass memory, divisor polynomial multiplication is conducted to a bit list corresponding to a selected trellis transition pass, and a transmission-information bit list is decoded.
