PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce largely power consumption by retrieving a plurality of connected memory words in an arbitrary order and suppressing retrieving operation of memory words being out of an object of retrieving. SOLUTION: An associative memory is provided with a memory array comprising a plurality of entries constituted by connecting a plurality of words. Also, the memory array is provided with a plurality of memory blocks comprising a plurality of words corresponding respectively in a plurality of words constituting each entry. Each memory block is provided with a plurality of 1 word circuits storing data of one word respectively and outputting a detected result of accordance/discordance by accordance-retrieving stored data and retrieved data driven on a retrieving bit line, and a retrieving bit line driver driving a retrieving bit line of a corresponding memory block respectively in accordance with retrieved data. When accordance-retrieving is performed, a retrieving bit line is driven by the retrieving bit line driver only in a memory block of an object of retrieving.
