PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption without damaging the convenience of constant access. SOLUTION: The CPU of an information processor decides whether or not a communication line 150 is connected to a connection connector 130 ahead of initialization, etc. When the communication line 150 is not connected as a result of the decision, the initialization is not conducted. An xDSL(Digital Subscriber Line) modem 110 is also shifted to an operation mode of low power consumption. Connection decision is carried out, e.g. as follows. A test signal is transmitted through the xDSL modem 110. The signal is reflected by the connector 130, etc., and the reflected wave is received through a hybrid circuit 126. The magnitude of echo energy is large in the state where the connection line 150 is not connected to the connector 130 and is small in the state where the connection line 150 is connected to the connector 130. The CPU decides the existence/absence of connection on the basis of the magnitude of the echo.
