PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photothermal photographic image forming material without a defect in a developed image preventing removing and separation of a film in the course of production and transportation, as well as a image recording method onto the material described above, which provides an image of good quality by reducing haze arises from the irregularity in interference and/or reflection of laser exposure. SOLUTION: The photothermal photographic image forming material comprises a photosensitive layer containing photosensitive silver halide particles, an organic silver salt, a reducing agent and a binder on a base, a protecting layer next to the photosensitive layer and a backing layer on the opposite side of the base from the photosensitive layer. This material is specified by coating the outside with a film of silicon oxide or silicon nitride using a high frequency plasma vapor growth method.
