PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of a rubbing cloth for rubbing an alignment layer for a liquid crystal. SOLUTION: A rubbing roller 1 is provided with a large number of fine circular holes 5. The rubbing cloth 8 is wound onto the outer peripheral surface of the rubbing roller 1. When compressed air is supplied to the inner part of the rubbing roller 1 from a compressed air supplying hole 15, the supplied compressed air is blown to the rubbing cloth 8 through the circular holes 5 of the rubbing roller 1 and exhausted to the outer part. The fiber of the rubbing cloth 8 is stood up by the flow pressure of the compressed air blown to the rubbing cloth 8 from the circular holes 5 of the rubbing roller 1 even when the fiber falls associated with rubbing. Even if the rubbish generated by rubbing the surface of the alignment layer is adhered to the fiber of the rubbing cloth 8, the adhered rubbish can be removed by the flow pressure of the compressed air blown to the rubbing cloth 8. |
